EVERYTHING HAS CHANGED. AND NOW IT'S ONLY DREAMS THAT MATTER.
With the re-launch of the Crevice Entertainment Website on March 4th. Karina and I thought it would be fitting to talk about how the last 10 years have shaped us into these crazy wild at heart filmmakers that are ready to crush it in these next 10 years. So grab some popcorn and witness the power of teamwork.
Also next week, we are going to be talking about Hollywood's serious lack of diversity. But not just diversity in front of the camera but also behind the camera. It's really important that we acknowledge how there is so much room for everyone to get their stories told. Yet Hollywood fails to give opportunity to young and aspiring filmmakers of color. It's crazy how there are so many platforms these days. yet, it's the same people making all the content.
But let me not get ahead of myself. That's for next week. Karina throw that first question out. ;)
KARINA: You went through a big transformation last year, how does that reflect the new revamped company?
JUSTIN:
I went through a big transformation!? WE BOTH DID! Lol - and honestly I think the company pretty much had to follow suit. I mean I am sure you can attest, I feel like much like our past we were trying to make things work that just didn’t fit into our new journey. So we kind of had to spend time really evaluating our next 10 years and transforming the company into something that could sustain that.
So for me, in my opinion the company evolved.
In the same way you and I have. What’s really funny is 10 years ago it was you and I. And here we are ten years later, a lot has change, but our foundation is still the same. So let me ask you, because I feel like you’ve underwent an even bigger, well different which is so exciting, like your empowered now in so many ways than you ever where before, how has that reflected in how you want the company to be over these next 10 years?
KARINA:
Hahahahahahahaha thanks for the shout out. 2017 was definitely the year of personal evolution for both of us. We went through two very different health and wellness journeys but I feel like it had to be done in order for us to take our craft to the next level. And that's what I see. I see Crevice Entertainment running all types of different productions from webisodes, music videos, tv shows and of course full length features all at once. Always coming out with new entertaining content for our viewers. Collaborating with different and talented filmmakers and bring our industry brand new content that hasn't been seen or talked about before. I know it's quite ambitious but what
I've learned over the last year is that you have to dream big in order to do big.
Speaking of big, you are very well known for not doing anything less than, what grand vision do you see the company embarking on this year?
JUSTIN:
Ahhahahahahha - This year has already been full of surprises. This being the biggest one yet. Honestly I think in the past we were very secluded, what I mean by that is we didn’t have much collaboration with other filmmakers. This year I really want to make a point of expanding. I want us to collaborate with other artist more and in a more grand scale. I think through last year with all the things we went through, we opened the door to that and honestly it was the best thing I think we could have ever done. It’s funny because You and I have been working together for 10 years but last year really was the most significant for us. In my opinion. I absolutely love what we’ve created and I mean I don’t want to gloss over all the wonderful people that have helped get us here because since year one there has been plenty of people a part of our circle. But since then a lot has change and so have the people we’ve surrounded ourselves with. But our drive has stayed the same.
I think we are the strongest mentally and creatively then we’ve ever been.
And if people only knew half the stuff we’ve been through in this industry, they would commend us just on surviving! Speaking of surviving... What do you think makes a great team survive trials and tribulations of an industry like this?
KARINA:
How are you so amazing at articulating your emotions lol seriously! I can't deal. You said this so perfectly. I think this is one of the reasons teams are able to survive the hard times we all go through in this industry. We celebrate each others strengths! There is so much competition everywhere you turn that the ego needs to be left outside when stepping into the company.
There is room for EVERYONE TO SUCCEED!
And I cannot STRESS HOW IMPORTANT it is to keep an honest and open line of communication between one another. Many people don't know this but you and I had a conversation late last year when we didn't know what exactly the future was going to look like for Crevice Entertainment, we just had so much going on behind the scenes in our own personal lives. And YOU don't know this but I really am thankful that you picked up the phone and said let's meet tonight and have a conversation. We chatted for a few hours and came out of the meeting feeling refreshed and ready to expand. Speaking of, can you elaborate a little more about how we've been able to incorporate some of our passions into the company's expansion such as the Bare With Me Blog, marketing, full service post house, etc.
JUSTIN:
AHAHHAHAHAHAHAH I wasn’t sure if we were going to tell the people about that conversation! But I’m glad you mentioned it. Because it’s true and only the real can relate. Ahhahahahhaha I still remember being like, “OH NO NO NO - that’s not happening.” - Gosh people have no idea how stressful our lives were and just what was going on. We will tell them one day: But that’s what I think makes our team so strong is we fight for each other to WIN IN LIFE. Even when we don’t know what and where things are going we say. “What we have is something worth fighting for.” That conversation changed us for good because it was in that moment for me that you do realize how nothing is guaranteed, at any point with lack of nurturing. Even the greatest things can end. And since we talked about that conversation we should also address the elephant in the room as well.
The reason there is only 2 of us now.
It’s for that same reason we discussed about above - even the greatest things are not guaranteed. So you have to consistently work towards it. Encourage it. Love it. Maintain it. Without that maintenance, cracks and weakness will form beyond your control. Inevitable it will fall apart. We learned from that and are so strong now. I’m so excited for all the things we have in store. Speaking of in store, now I can answer the question. Ahahhahaha after all that. WHAT’S NEXT.... we successfully launched BARE WITH ME - which was a massive success and people love it! A dream come true. BUT this year an even bigger dream comes to life! The company is its new venturing into the world of HEALTH AND FITNESS! People by now should know how this has changed your and my life! It’s a huge passion of ours. BUTTTT I BELIEVE THIS IS WHERE I ROLL OUT THE RED CARPET FOR YOU TO MAKE THE ANNOUNCEMENT! TELL THEM WHAT’S NEXT!!!
KARINA:
AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! Talk about being put on the spot (insert eyes emoji) hahahahahaha health and fitness literally saved my life! Last March I chose to finally take control of my well being after I was diagnosed pre diabetic. I reached out to an old friend and asked what she had done to feel and look so amazing. She introduced me to Beachbody. I learned about proper nutrition and portion control, something that was a total enigma prior to this. I've done so many new workouts over the course of a year that really challenged both my body and mind and have made me into the significantly more confident and strong woman I am today. I'm also so thankful for the extraordinary women I've met throughout this journey and now consider really close friends. This whole experience is what helped me tap into a deep passion of mine that I've had in me for a long time but didn't believe enough in myself to pursue. Helping others live their best life through educating them about healthy living. Before this, I didn't know the how and this experience helped me learn that. I was shocked when I found out that you, too, were planning to start your own health journey. I'd always assumed that since you were thin, you didn't have any interest in that area but I soon learned that great health is for everybody, no matter how you look. Big, small, thin, fit, however you would describe yourself, having good health is a journey not a destination.
That is why this year we will be launching a new health and fitness site filled with workout tips, delicious recipes, celebrating people and sharing their journeys of overcoming the "impossible."
I am SO THRILLED for this because I feel like it will make a huge difference in people's lives and that is the biggest reward I could ever ask for. Stay tuned this summer! And don't think we won't be incorporating some fun and informative productions in the mix as well. Since you're so creative with words, what is the one word you would use to describe the rest of 2018? Why?
JUSTIN:
WOKE. Ahhahahahahhaha first off before I get into why that word. Let me just say. YES. YES. AND YES. I can not wait for this fitness adventure to start. And I’m sure it’s no surprise to anyone who follows us on IG. Which is why I would describe the rest of 2018 as WOKE.
Because this year we are WOKE, to our passions, to our ideas, to our future and most of all to ourselves. We are the best we’ve ever been.
We have learned so much that any venture beyond this point we will executed with excellence. I feel like we could go on forever. Because for so long we have not said much publicly. Now we are like this is us. Like us or hate us we are going to keep doing us. So in conclusion, last question, for now. What’s been your greatest lesson learned?
KARINA:
It's so true! Now that you mention it, we truly do live by this word every single day. My biggest lesson learned over the last year has been that we can achieve anything and everything we put our mind to. There is nothing that we can't achieve in this lifetime. I'm not saying it's going to be easy. It may take a day, a month, a year, maybe even a whole decade to accomplish the goal. If you choose to put in the work and you learn to pick yourself right back up when life hits you with the unexpected, you will see the fruits of your labor come to fruition. Never give up on your dreams! Today, IS YOUR TURN.
JUSTIN:
YES! That’s so true. I’m proud of us. Here we are 10 years later, stronger and better than ever! Because when people think of DREAMS, they usually associate it with youth, or children. But DREAMS are for everyone, and yes as responsibilities kick in when you get older and as life happens it may take longer to achieve something that might have been simplistic when life was less complicated. BUT without a shadow of a doubt if you are still willing to put the work in, your dream can still come true.
DON’T give up because it seems hard, work harder because it is hard and it needs to be done. You deserve to live your best life!
Do what you love and dream big. And if anyone has ever told you differently. Come back here and and we’ll tell you directly. Because here with us at Crevice Entertainment - YOUR DREAMS MATTER.
